Knee Joint Pain

Knee Joint Pain

Knee pain can make daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, and even recreational hobbies challenging. At Honeysuckle Acupuncture, we provide personalized acupuncture and electroacupuncture treatments to relieve knee pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility.

What Causes Knee Pain?

Knee pain has many potential causes and can be classified into two types:

  • Acute Knee Pain: Often due to an injury from falls, collisions, or sports activities.
  • Chronic Knee Pain: Results from conditions that develop over time, including:
    • Osteoarthritis: This form of arthritis wears down cartilage in the knee, causing pain, swelling, and limited mobility.
    • Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs) in the knee that normally reduce friction in the joint.
    • Iliotibial (IT) Band Syndrome: An inflamed IT band, which runs down the thigh and attaches to the knee, causes pain by pulling excessively on the knee joint.
    • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner’s Knee): Caused by muscle imbalances or repetitive stress on the kneecap, leading to irritation and misalignment.
    • Meniscus Tear: A tear in the knee’s cartilage that may cause a “catching” sensation during movement as the torn piece gets stuck.
    • Patellar Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendon connecting the kneecap, often triggered by repetitive jumping.

When to Try Acupuncture for Knee Pain?

We collaborate with your medical team to assess whether an integrative approach is best for your knee pain. Acupuncture is an excellent option if you are looking to avoid surgery, recovering from knee surgery, or seeking a non-invasive treatment.

At Honeysuckle Acupuncture, we combine Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and herbal remedies to treat various knee conditions. Our treatments are tailored to each patient, targeting the specific pain area while addressing nearby contributing issues and providing whole-body relief. This holistic approach aims to reduce inflammation and promote long-lasting recovery.
